The Hull striker, who is on loan from United, has revealed that he was playing FIFA as his senior employers took part in the early Europa League kick-off in Denmark.
United slumped to one of their most humiliating results of the season as FC Midtjylland came from a goal down to secure a 2-1 win in the last-32 first-leg tie.
And despite missing the action, Powell said: “There’s no excuse, they should have won.”
Hull boss Steve Bruce added: “It’s a disappointing result and they’re going through a difficult time, but I’m sure they will come through.”

Powell is expected to play a leading role in Hull’s FA Cup tie at Arsenal on Saturday afternoon, which will mark his debut to the Tigers.
